Are you on the right path to achieve your goals? How do you know? Who mapped out the path for you? I often hear people talk about the things they want out of life, then I see them doing things that prevent them from reaching those goals. At the very least, their actions are not advancing the cause. Guess what. I am one of those people too. I’m what Gretchen Rubin would call and Obliger. I have a tendency to do things when others are relying on me, rather than just for myself.
For the past few years, I have been toying with the idea of starting this side business. I can envision myself working with clients and producing amazing results. The trouble is that I have exercised my masterful gift of procrastination. I myself had to get a coach to nudge me in the right direction, taking it one simple step at a time. She’s awesome. Ironically, that is exactly what I do for my clients. I guide you to carve your own PATH with simple steps toward the future you desire. Here’s how it works.
Partnership: It starts with finding people who are genuinely interested in supporting your journey. The key is setting the standard for how you need to be supported. Maybe you need them to keep you to deadlines, or just be a sounding board for new ideas. It’s possible you will partner with more than one person. You may provide something to support their journey too.
Authenticity: Be true to yourself. Trying to achieve someone else’s vision will only frustrate you and create undue stress. When you work with your partner, be open and honest about how you are feeling about your progress and next steps. Don’t be afraid to celebrate the small wins.
Talent: Assess your talents and USE them to move yourself forward. This one will take reflection to uncover your unique gifts. There are also assessments that can help you put a language and framework to define your talents. Directing your talent intentionally will make taking each small step easier.
Harmony: Seek harmony between your current life and your future life. This does not mean that you will be in a daily state of Zen. It means that you accept the uncomfortable experiences as part of the journey. If it becomes too much to handle, then change direction.
I am currently in the process of planning a wedding in 5 months (136 days to go). I have been applying these principles to establish harmony between my wedding, my corporate job, my side business, and life in general. Some days are more stressful than others, but each day ends with me being prepared to tackle the next.
